Today's lecture by Kashif Shaukat, Paradigm Technical Sales Advisor, covered the topic of how to maximize the efficiency of your 2D reprocessing and get the best results, fast. 2D processing and imaging are the most cost-effective way to study the subsurface in terms of structural geology and reservoir properties. However, since a single 2D line only provides limited information, multiple 2D lines are acquired across the area.
Paradigm continues to strengthen its 2D processing and imaging solutions by rejuvenating 2D tomography and introducing a new multi-line batch process. Now geoscientists can efficiently update velocity models by using Paradigm's modern and easy-to-use tomography engine on multiple 2D lines in a single run. The upcoming lecture, on July 26, is about "Diffraction Imaging from Full-Azimuth Data and Legacy Data for Improved Structural Resolution". In this lecture, Kashif Shaukat, Paradigm Technical Sales Advisor, discusses about the in-depth migration, recorded wavefield components mapped at each depth point consist of specular energy and diffraction energy. Paradigm innovates with a technique in which the diffracted component is separated from the total migrated wavefield. That diffracted component plays a vital role in building an accurate structural framework. By designing an optimal filter, diffraction imaging can also be used to map small scale subsurface geological objects and discontinuities such as faults and uncomformities. This methodology enables geoscientists to improve structural resolution, and perform accurate interpretation and modeling for further exploration workflows. PDVSA INTEVEP undertook a study in a carbonate area located in a gas and condensate reservoir offshore Venezuela, where the main challenge was related to the high heterogeneity of the rock fabric. The geoscientists needed to understand how the pore system pattern reflects good porosities throughout the limestone while having significant permeability variations. The data was collected from wells with cores, as variations in the petrophysical properties are much harder to predict in wells without core data. The main objective was to apply a clustering approach in order to build electrofacies models and integrate them with sedimentological interpretations by extrapolating those models to wells without core data.Read More
